The Passion Play occurs every 10 years here in Oberammergau.
And, sitting high up at the highest point, is the gorgeous Sacre Coeur basilica. After spending time here, we walked down to the Rue Dauphin and hunted for the pastry shop that has pistachio eclairs (trust me, you will not find these outside Paris! Once found, I was in pastry heaven for the rest of the afternoon. We are lucky though because mama bought advance tickets! Well, this was Arianna’s first time so, we had mapped out a handful of Must See pieces.
But, I wanted to share this marvelous city with Arianna, so off we went. It was definitely cold, but not too cold that you could’t walk.
Generally, I like to stay in the 1st Arrondissement, which is the neighborhood or area in close proximity to the Lourve, Tuilleries, Rue de Rivoli, and not to far from St. What was missing were the crowds, however, even at the major sites, there were lines, so you must know to always get tickets in advance to the highly popular sites.
My visit began in Munich’s airport, where my small group of six, were given a tour of this fabulous airport.
It really has to be one of the most efficient airports in Europe and what was most impressive was that is was so full of light, and so clean.
Dinner for us most evenings was in the Latin Quarter or the St. A few other notable places that are always on my list: Laduree- this is THE place for macarons.
There are several locations, but I like the one on the Champs Elysees. Eiffel Tower Restuarants: There are two- Le Jules Verne and Bistro 58. Le Jules Verne is a Michelin starred restaurant with fabulous views of Paris. From here, the views overlooking Paris are breathtaking. Following our pastry break, because this is a cultural and calorie tour of Paris, we walked to the Musee D’Orsay. You really cannot see most of this art gallery in a day. I always like to suggest having a guide for your first time, but honestly, with a teen, it would not have been worth it for me.After having lunch, we grabbed a cab and headed back to Rue de Rivoli, near our hotel for hot chocolate at Angelina’s. This art gallery is dedicated to Impressionist art. And, secret tip, if you head to the Big Clock Window, you will get a great birdseye view of Sacre Coeur in Montmarte! So, I just merrily followed Arianna to whereever she wanted to go, and when we got pooped out..guess what?Note: remember that if you want to purchase some as gifts, they have a really short life(24-48 hrs). Bistro 58 is on the lower level, good views with all your food served picnic style. Note: HIGHLY recommend you make advance reservations. Le Marais: this neighborhood on the eastern side of Paris is the new “chic” hot spot.Old Jewish neighborhoods, fabulous restaurants, a outstanding Jewish Museum and a really cool vibe.Angelina’s has become somewhat famous over the last couple of years. There is an Angelina tea room and that is where we went….
